To provide a consistent approach to placement of player into teams.
Teams playing in the Northern Suburbs Football Association (NSFA) competition are nominated by the Bannockburn Rovers Club to participate in the various divisions based on player ability. Every 5 weeks the entire competition is graded by the NSFA and teams are moved up and down divisions. Players need to be graded into teams depending upon individual ability. All players playing in the Under 8 competition and upwards shall be graded if the club will be entering more than one team into the age group.
Player Grading will be a two-stage process consisting of Basic Skills assessment and Game Play.
The Club will arrange for independent experienced coaches and soccer administrators to carry out the assessment for skills assessment and team play. The assessors are assigned an activity and assess each group of players on the same activity. All care is taken to provide an impartial assessment of players.
Attendance / non-attendance
Players that are unable to be assessed at the grading assessment session time will be assigned to a division at the discretion of the Assessment team.
A player can elect not to be graded but will automatically be placed in the lowest division team for the age group.
Appointment to a Team
The scores marked at both sessions are collated and players are placed into teams based on their ranking amongst their peers.
The Club may utilise the previous year’s results from Team Coach surveys in the grading process if required.
Specifically for Under 8 players, teams will be formed to group players of similar ability together and to consider “play with friends” requests. These requests can be made at the time of online registration.
Appealing a player’s assessment is available to players and parents however this must be made in writing to the club committee and will be discussed at the next committee meeting.
GRADING PROCESS (U8 – U13)
The two-day grading process has been developed and is run by professional Football coaches from T3. The grading process has been tried and tested and is delivered at a number of clubs in the local area by the same coaches. The format will include:
Basic Skills Assessment – The skills assessment trials consist of basic skill tests:
Game Play Assessment – will involve players participating in trial games and being assessed on the following criteria:
- Ability to read the play
- Team play
This structure guarantees that every player will be seen by an independent and qualified set of eyes and graded accordingly to their performance on BOTH days. Players will be analysed from different perspectives including ability, game awareness, fitness, attitude, and creativity.
The process will give the club the necessary tools to put together teams where every player will be at a similar technical level, making the teams not only competitive but also building a fun and friendly environment at the club.
